Attended funeral costs
The funeral with a service and mourners present, priced as one of the two packages every funeral director must publish.
What this covers
The funeral most people picture: a service, a time and a place, and people there. It is one of two packages every funeral director must publish a price for, which makes it comparable between firms without asking anybody.
What the figure covers is prescribed, so two firms describe the same thing: collection and care of the deceased, a coffin, the hearse and the staff. Limousines, flowers, an order of service and a memorial sit outside it, and are the items most often assumed to be included.
Common questions
- Is the published price the price I will pay?
- It is the price for the package as the standardised list defines it. Anything you add, such as limousines, flowers or an order of service, is charged on top, and the third party fees for the cremation or burial are separate again.
- Can I use my own coffin or arrange parts of it myself?
- Yes. A funeral director cannot require you to buy a coffin from them, and the CMA rules exist partly to make that clear. Ask for the price without the items you intend to supply yourself.
