What will this funeral cost, and what is the same everywhere?
Put two funeral quotes side by side in the format the regulator already requires, and see which half of the price a firm actually sets.
Every funeral director has to publish a standardised price list: the same items, in the same order, split between what they charge and what they pay to somebody else on your behalf. The format exists so two quotes can be read against each other, and almost nobody uses it that way.
This separates the funeral director's own fee, the only part that differs between firms and the only part worth negotiating, from the cremation or burial fee and the officiant, which no firm sets and no firm can discount.
What the answer is based on
The standardised price list every funeral director must display under the Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021, cited with the date it was read.
The interactive calculator is being built. What it will compute, and what it will compute it from, is set out on this page, and the figures it will use are already published in the dataset.
